Why buy this Congratulations Set 2016-W Proof American Silver Eagle?
One of the world's most collected bullion coin, the Silver Eagle, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016. This Congratulations Set Proof Silver Eagle was part of that anniversary release and would make a fantastic addition to any collection of coins in the series. Struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver, this piece features the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint on the reverse. This coin also features one-year only edge lettering that marks the series' milestone, reading, "30TH ANNIVERSARY."
Classic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
On the obverse is the historic Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman. Liberty carries branches in her left hand while extending her right hand above the morning sun. She is draped in the American flag and wears a Phrygian cap, which indicates that she is a freed slave. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed on this face, as are "LIBERTY" and "2016."
John Mercanti, who would go on to become Chief Engraver of the US Mint, designed the reverse. He modeled it off of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle holds arrows, symbols of America's military readiness, and an olive branch, which indicates a desire for peace, as it guards a union shield. Above its head are thirteen stars, which represent the original states. Rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
Flawless Poof 70 Deep Cameo
American Numismatic Association Certification Service (ANACS) certified that this coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Proof 70. They also credited the coin with having deeply mirrored fields by certifying it Deep Cameo.
