Why Buy This Set of two Proof 70 First Day of Issue 2016-W Proof Silver Eagles with black core holders with Mercanti and Jones hand-signed labels to your collection?
The U.S. Mint offered the American Silver Eagle for the first time in 1986, which makes 2016 the 30th anniversary of the series. To mark the 30th anniversary, the proof has a special inscription on the edge which reads "30th Anniversary." This has never been seen before in this series. However, the coin offered here comes with something else as well - a black core holder with Mercanti and Jones signed labels!
Exquisite Patriotic Designs
On the obverse, Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty design can be found. 2016 is also the 100th anniversary of this design. This detailed depiction of Liberty shows her against the horizon with the stars and stripes flowing around her.
The design on the reverse is the work of John Mercanti. There are 13 stars at the top to symbolize the original colonies. Below this, a bald eagle behind a shield can be seen with a banner in its beak. This side also displays the mintmark, face value, and silver content.
Proof 70 First Day of Issue with black core Mercanti and Jones hand-signed labels
These coins were graded by NGC as Proof 70 - the highest grade for proof coins. They also received the designation Ultra Cameo, for an exceptional finish, and First Day of Issue for their submission to NGC on the day they were released. What makes this set special however, is that the coins are encapsulated in black core holders with labels hand-signed by the 11th and 12th Chief Engravers of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti and Elizabeth Jones. These are some of the essential people that brought this coin series into existence.
