2016-W Proof Platinum Eagle Certified Proof 70 UC Early Releases by NGC
In 1997, the US Mint unveiled the American Platinum Eagle series. The proofs from this series are some of the most collectible coins being struck by the US Mint today. This 2016 1 oz. proof was struck at the West Point branch. Like other Platinum Eagles, it's made of .9995 fine platinum. Mintage of the 2015 proof was very low due to supply issues at the Mint, a mintage limit of 10,000 has been set for the 2016 proof.
Designs From Mercanti and Balan
The obverse displays John Mercanti's depiction of the Statue of Liberty. The date, "2016" can also be seen here.
The reverse features the second of the 2-year Liberty and Freedom themed designs. The design was created by Paul C. Balan and it was sculpted by Joseph Menna. This side depicts Liberty next to Freedom while she holds an olive branch with 13 olives.
