Why order this Proof Silver 2016-W American Liberty Medal?
This Silver 2016-W Proof American Liberty Medal brings the past and future of American numismatics together. The coin was issued to mark the end of one era, which reached its pinnacle in 2009 with the issue of the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin that had been envisioned by Augustus St. Gaudens. This medal casts a view toward the future, complete with contemporary designs and manufacturing technology. This coin was struck from .999 fine silver at the West Point Mint, the "W" Mint mark of which is inscribed on the reverse.
Patriotic Designs by Justin Kunz and Paul Balan
Justin Kunz designed the obverse, intending to create an image that encompassed liberty, courage, and hope. Liberty stands at the center with her shoulders turned slightly to the right of the holder and her head turned to the holder's left. She balances an American flag with her left hand while holding her torch in her right. The year of issue, "2016," is inscribed in the lower left, while "LIBERTY" is included in large font along the rim.
On Paul Balan's reverse, an eagle is shown in flight. It bears a branch in its talons and has a look of steely determination. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches along the rim at the top.
