Why add this GEM Specimen 2016-W Walking Liberty Gold Half Dollar in original Mint Packaging to Your Collection?
2016 was a big year for 3 classic U.S. coins, it was the centennial anniversary of their designs. To mark the occasion, the Mint issued .9999 fine gold versions of these coins. Among them was the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. This coin was struck at the West Point Mint and weighs 1/2 Troy oz. The maximum authorized mintage of this piece is 70,000 coins.
Classic Walking Liberty Design in Gold
Both designs on this special half dollar were originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. The obverse shows his depiction of Liberty. She can be seen making her way across the scene, hence Walking Liberty.
The reverse design features a bald eagle on a rocky perch with its wings partially unfolded. To the left, a tree can be seen growing from a crack in the rock. The weight, purity, and face value of the coin are below.
