2016 Switzerland Proof Silver 50 Francs Shooting Festival - Ticino graded NGC Proof 69 Ultra Cameo
Marksmanship is a very important spot in Switzerland – like football is in the United States. Every major event is a celebration of fanfare, and in many of these events medals are issued to commemorate the festival.
The largest event of the year this year is Ticino. Thousands of competitors are expected to turn out for the event. This coin was minted with an extremely limited mintage, one that will likely preclude many people who desire the piece from being able to obtain one of these beautiful medals. We happen to have a few of these beautiful pieces available here and now!
The silver medal is a .900 fine silver, 25g proof piece minted by Switzerland, and has a mintage limit of only 1,200 coins. The obverse design is a seated version of an allegorical figure used for hundreds of years on Swiss medals and coins commonly known as Helvetia. The reverse design shows an oak and laurel wreath with crossed rifles and a powder horn at the bottom of the design. In the center of the design is a large numeral 50 followed by the initials “Fr.” for Franc, the unit of currency in Switzerland with a value of approximately $1 per Franc.
