Why purchase this High Relief 2016-P 1 oz Silver $1 Tuvalu Star Trek - USS Enterprise?
In 2016, the Perth Mint celebrated the 50th anniversary of the debut of the first ever Star Trek series. The original show failed to catch fire and was cancelled after just three seasons. Half a century and several movies and television series later, though, the 'enterprise' has attracted a cult following. Now, you have the chance to own a piece of history with this USS Enterprise High Relief proof. The coin bears the iconic "P" mint mark of the Perth Mint, where it was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver. This piece was part of a mintage of just 6,000.
Stunning USS Enterprise NCC-1701 Design by Jennifer McKenna
On the obverse is a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. Long a fixture of Tuvalu's coinage, it depicts the monarch wearing a tiara. Her name and title, "QUEEN ELIZABETH II," join other rim inscriptions, including the coin's weight and purity, its date, its country, and its face value.
Jennifer McKenna designed the reverse. There, the iconic Enterprise hurtles through space just as it did on the original series. The high relief and lines extending outward from behind the craft enhance the portrayal of motion. "STAR TREK" is inscribed near the top.
Impeccable PF70 UC
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) determined that this coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification, so they awarded it their highest grade, Proof 70. They also found that it bore particularly sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields, so they certified it Ultra Cameo.
