Beautiful Kookaburra Design by Natasha Muhl
Queen Elizabeth II's 1998 portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley serves as the obverse design. Rank-Broadley depicts her wearing a tiara and a stern look in the right-side portrait. Rim inscriptions include the coin's face value, "8 DOLLAR," country of issue, "AUSTRALIA," and the monarch's name, "ELIZABETH II."
On the reverse is a single Kookaburra perched atop a post in the outback. The bird, which is shown in left-side profile, sings, and two trees rise from the floor of the landscape in the background. The inscription "AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA" arches over the image, while another, "2016 1 OZ 999 SILVER," arches under it.
