Exquisite Wedge Tailed Eagle Design by John Mercanti
The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. She wears a tiara and simple yet elegant jewelry. A rim frame encircles the image and has three inscriptions, "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," and "1 DOLLAR."
John Mercanti, the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, designed the reverse of this coin. His design features a Wedge-Tailed eagle perched atop a tree stump. The eagle is shown from its left side, but its head faces to the right of the holder. Inscriptions along the rim of the coin include the name of the coin, "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE," and the coin's year of issue, weight, and purity, "2016 1 OZ 999 SILVER."
