Why add the 5 oz. Specimen Fort Moultrie America the Beautiful Quarter to your collection?
A total of fifty-six national parks and historic sites will be featured by the U.S. Mint in the America the Beautiful Quarters series. The design for South Carolina, the 35th release of the series, commemorates the contribution Fort Moultrie played in the American War for Independence, illustrating the pivotal moment when Sergeant William Jasper returned the regimental flag to the ramparts while under fire from a British ship. This Specimen coin is eligible for precious metals IRAs, measures three inches (76.2mm) in diameter and weighs 155.5g, struck from 5 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint.
Dramatic patriotic imagery
The reverse depiction of Sergeant Jasper was created by Richard Scott and Joseph Menna. The inscriptions "FORT MOULTRIE," "SOUTH CAROLINA," "2016," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" surround the image.
Featured on the obverse is the 1932 portrait of President George Washington sculpted by artist John Flanagan. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "QUARTER DOLLAR," and the "P" Mint mark.
