The Casa de Moneda de Mexico (also known as the Mexican Mint) is the oldest Mint with continuous operation in the Western Hemisphere. It was established in 1535 on the orders of the Spanish Crown. The coin was struck on a .999 pure silver planchet weighing 1 full kilo. The series bears no face value which is unusual for a silver issues struck by a governmental authority. Classic design celebrates Mexican Independence

The obverse of this issue features the Angel of Independence which is located in Mexico City. This "Winged Victory" statue stands atop a victory column. The statue now serves as a mausoleum for the Fathers of the Mexican War of Independence. She holds a laurel wreath in her right hand and broken chains in her left. The reverse features the current Mexican Coat of Arms surrounded by previous versions of the Mexican Coat of Arms.
