Why add this roll of 10 2 oz. Great Britain 2016 Silver Queen's Beast Lion to your collection
This roll of 10 Silver Great Britain 2 oz. Lions are part of the first issue in the new Queen's Beast Series of the Royal Mint, which is slated to include ten coins. Struck from .9999 fine silver, these coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition. Issued in 2016, they feature an updated obverse image of Queen Elizabeth II, the first such update since 1998.
Distinctly British Lion Design by Jody Clark
Jody Clark designed both the obverse and reverse of this 2016 Great Britain Lion. On the obverse is a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that reflects her current age. She has curly hair that partly covers her ear, and her crown sits atop her head. Two sets of inscriptions, one providing the coin's face value, "5 POUNDS," and the other providing her name and title in a Latin abbreviation, "ELIZABETH II D.G. REG F.D.," encircle the image.
The reverse image features a lion balancing a shield. A classic symbol of England, the Lion stands on its hind legs roaring loudly with its tail swinging behind it. The shield, which is at the bottom, features four quadrants. Two of those quadrants have symbols of England, while the others have symbols of Scotland and Ireland. Rim inscriptions include "LION OF ENGLAND," "2 OZ FINE SILVER 9999," and "2016."
