Why add this 2016 1 oz. Silver Britannia to your collection?
The Royal Mint has produced the Silver Proof Britannia each year since 1997. Since 2013 the proof version of the Britannia has featured a different design on the reverse, and more interestingly they did away with the .958 Britannia silver in favor of a more traditional composition of .999 fine silver. The 2016 Silver Proof Britannia is struck from 1 full Troy oz., has a face value of 2 pounds, measures 38.61mm in diameter, with a collectors mintage of just 6,550 specimens.
Beautiful detailing on this extraordinary Proof.
Designed by Suzie Zamit, the reverse features Britannia, the female personification of Britain, standing right, casting a watchful eye to the sea, armed with trident and shield, with royal lion at her feet, inscribed border "BRITANNIA," "1 oz FINE SILVER 999," "2016." The profile image of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II, D.G. REG. F.D., 2 POUNDS, 2016" adorns the obverse, sculpted by Jody Clark.
