Why add this Mint State 70 2016 France 130th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty 5 oz. Silver Medal to Your Collection?
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable American icons, but this 2016 silver medal marking the 130th anniversary of its completion was issued by France. It weighs 5 Troy oz. and was struck at the Paris Mint. This medal also commemorates a similar medal that was issued in 1896 for the 10th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Mintage of this modern silver medal was very limited, which only adds to its considerable collectible appeal.
Bartholdi and the Statue of Liberty
The obverse is inscribed with the date that the Statue of Liberty was dedicated on. Below the dedication date, there are a pair of figures looking towards the statue while they sit next to a winged companion.
The reverse is inscribed with the centennial dates of our nation. The design on this side is all about the alliance between France and the United States. Above the dates, the inscription "UNITED TO PROTECT OUR LIBERTIES" can be seen.
Flawless Mint State 70 Condition
This medal was examined carefully when it was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation for grading. Since no imperfections were found, it was awarded a perfect Mint State 70 grade. Since this medal is larger than most, it has an oversized slab.
