Why add this 2016 Grotesque Horned Green Man Ultra High Relief Silver Proof to your collection?
The buildings of Parliament Hill in Ottawa are known for their incredible ornamentation of wood and stone carved sculptures of fantasy called grotesque figures. The Royal Canadian Mint's Sculptural Art of Parliament series features these creatures; the third and final release of the series depicts the Horned Green Man. This Sculptural Art of Parliament Proof has a limited mintage of 4,000, measures 36mm in diameter, and is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver.
Ultra High Relief strike gives dimension to this Gothic-style grotesque.
The image of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt appears on the obverse, with "ELIZABETH II" and "D. G. REGINA." A detailed Green Man's face adorns the obverse, with curled mustache, thick eyebrows, and goat-like horns. Designed by Dominion Sculptor Phillip White, a dense leafy border surrounds the face, and includes inscriptions "CANADA" and "20 DOLLARS 2016." The image is incredibly similar to the Gorgon depicted on the Apollonian Drachm, struck late 5th-4th Centuries B.C.

This perfect 2016 Ultra High Relief Grotesque Horned Green Man Silver Proof is graded Proof 70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and includes the Exclusive Canada label. For outstanding contrast between the frosted and mirrored surfaces, this Proof is also designated Ultra Cameo (UC).
