John Brown led a group of Slaves and freedmen on a raid against the U.S. Arsenal at Harpers Ferry, hoping to arm a revolt. The attempt failed, and the men finally fled to the firehouse, where they defended until they were captured. Harpers Ferry is full of historical sites like this, and is a great place to commemorate!

Each one has the same design found on its standard sized counterpart, but is made of .999 fine silver and has a massive 3” diameter. These 2016 5 oz. silver America the Beautiful quarters features the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park design.
The obverse of these large coin displays the same design found on the obverse of all America the Beautiful quarters, a bust of George Washington. The Harpers Ferry design is located on the reverse. It depicts John Brown’s Fort, which was used during the Civil War. This structure has been preserved and today it is one of the main attractions of the Harpers Ferry area.
