Why Purchase This Mint State 70 First Day of Issue 2016 1 oz. Platinum Eagle?

The American Platinum Eagle series made its debut in 1997. While the bullion version was regularly issued until 2008, new bullion Platinum Eagles have been scarce since then. Since 2008, they have only been issued in 2014 and now 2016. This 2016 Platinum Eagle has a regular finish and weighs 1 troy oz. It's made of .9995 fine platinum and has a face value of $100. The final mintage of coins in this series tends to be quite low.

Detailed Work from Mercanti and Rogers

The design on the obverse was created by John Mercanti. Mercanti is widely respected for the quality of his work. This design shows his depiction of the Statue of Liberty.

The reverse shows one of the most treasured American icons, the bald eagle. This eagle is shown in flight with the sun in the background. The face value is displayed at the bottom, the weight and purity can be found to the right.
