Why should you purchase this High Relief Proof Silver Winged Liberty Commemorative certified by NGC?
This Proof Silver commemorative features a design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens himself! Upon the request of President Theodore Roosevelt to make U.S. coinage beautiful again, Saint-Gaudens sketched the design that came to be seen on the Saint Gaudens Double Eagle. The original design was much different, and shows Liberty with wings and wearing an indian headdress! We have worked hard with the National Park Foundation, who protect Saint Gaudens home as a national heritage site, in order to obtain this original design from the plasters and sketches he had created. We had additional help from John Mercanti, designer of the reverse of the silver eagle, who finished creating the plaster. He was very thorough in this design, and it even shows the date as written in Roman numerals “MMXVI.”
We had the Royal Mint, official Mint of Great Britain with over a millennium of experience under their belt, strike these commemoratives for us. Each one was struck in proof high relief out of 1 oz. of .999 fine silver. This combination of a Proof finish and a high relief design looks stunning, and makes this commemorative even more beautiful. Because of the skill and experience that the Royal Mint Brings to the table, you can rest assured that the strike and purity of the commemorative proof is of the best quality.
We had these commemoratives examined by experts at NGC in order to determine an accurate grade. Because of the fine examples were graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo, the second highest grade available to proof coinage! It also received something special before being encapsulated - a label signed by John Mercanti, the man who had helped finish the design! Don’t pass on this opportunity to secure one of these commemoratives for yourself. No more than 10,000 of these will be struck, assuring a very limited quantity. As well, each of these comes with official Mint packaging branded with the emblem of the National Park Foundation. 2016 is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, and this licensed product is a perfect way to honor the occasion!
