Travel back in time a few generations and you would find that the black and orange of Baltimore was then the Brown of St. Louis. Prior to the move to Baltimore in 1954, the St. Louis Browns, a transplant team originally from Milwaukee had some success in their early years, but the pressure from their National League rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, proved too much – the town wasn’t big enough for two Major League teams, and the Browns – after numerous losing seasons and nearly empty bleachers, finally gave up the ghost and moved to Baltimore for the beginning of the 1954 season.
In Baltimore, the new Orioles baseball team began re-building from the management down, and by 1966 they were an up and coming powerhouse worth watching. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, they were a well-seasoned and strong team with huge stars such as Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer and Brooks Robinson.
Although their streak of three champion seasons in a row did not continue, the franchise kept their fan base interested and does so still today after raising such stars as Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken, Jr. through the years.
