Why Choose This Proof 70 Ultra Cameo 2015-W Proof Gold Buffalo?
When the American Gold Buffalo was unveiled in 2006, it was the first .9999 fine gold coin to be offered by the US Mint. Like other US bullion coins, the Gold Buffalo is typically also available with a proof finish. This proof was struck at the West Point branch of the US Mint in 2015. Currently, it has the lowest mintage among the 1 oz. proofs of this series. Only 16,591 of these were released.
Unique Design from Fraser
The obverse of this gold proof displays a portrait of a Native American. This design was created by James Earle Fraser and it was first used in 1913. The date and "LIBERTY" are displayed on this side of the coin. The "W" Mint mark can be seen here as well.
The reverse shows a standing buffalo. Rumors have circulated that the animal pictured here is a buffalo known as Black Diamond, but they have never been proven. This side displays the face value, weight, and fineness.
Perfect Proof 70 Ultra Cameo from NGC
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) was chosen to grade this coin. It received the grade of Proof 70 and the Ultra Cameo designation. That means this specimen is completely free of imperfections and it displays a very high level of visual contrast.
