2015 American Liberty High Relief Gold coin
An amazing and stunning representation of Liberty and the United States of America, impressively struck in a pure 24 karat (.9999) fine gold coin. It is a first of its kind and has been the subject of discussions as well as countless articles for many months now. This $100 coin has been on the wish list for many collectors ever since the mint released the fact that they intended to make it available.
The obverse design was masterfully created by Justin Kunz, a US Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist and shows a young lady crowned with olive leaves holding a torch in her right hand and a flag pole bearing the US flag in her left hand. Near the bottom of the coin is the initials of the artist – right next to the design of Liberty's dress. Another artist / Mint engraver Phebe Hemphill, completed the sculpting of the design, and her initials show inside the bottom stripe of the flag.
On the other side of the coin, the reverse side, the design encompasses a majestic American Bald Eagle in mid-flight, carrying a twig of olive in its talon as an embodiment of freedom. This design was also created by US Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist and his name is Paul C. Balan. Directly under the Eagle’s leg are his initials and also above the leading edge of the olive twig. Completing the design on this reverse was Mint artist Engraver Don Everhart and his initials can be found along the right edge of the design.
History of this High Relief Gold coin
While this American Liberty High Relief gold coin is the first of its kind, this is not the first such coin struck in the United States. In 2009 the United States Mint produced a limited number of Ultra High Relief coins that reincarnated the Augustus Saint-Gaudens 1907 double eagle 20 coin with exacting detail. These coins were immediately very popular and value soared shortly after their release. To this day, these coins are difficult to find and are quite valuable.
This 2015 High Relief gold coin does not simply use an old design, it rather employs modern techniques in art to create a design with classic several classic American symbols in a modern setting. The coin's design is made with the collector in mind and is sure to be sought after for years to come.
