Design of the $2 Colorized Giant Squid Ocean Predator
The obverse of this 2015 Colorized Giant Squid features Ian Rank-Broadley design showing Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and his initials signify this that is located directly below her neck. The Queen’s name is inscribed to the left of her image as well. The Queen herself is facing to the right of the coin and is inside a design of a marine porthole. Striking a regal pose and wearing her authoritative crown and sporting the classic curly hair that she has been famous for. Above her is the word, “NIUE,” the small South Pacific atoll island nation that authorized the making and denomination for the coin. To the right of the Queen is the coin’s denomination or face value of “TWO DOLLARS,” which would be 2 Niue dollars. The year is located at the bottom of the image, “2015.” Encircling all of that is a porthole boarder with air bubbles on one side and the tentacles of the Giant Squid extending over from the opposite side of the coin.
On the reverse is the Giant Squid where he appears to be outside the ship, but his tentacles are reaching inside the porthole window. The coloration of the coin represents the deep ocean water hues and fades from light teal in the upper left, suggesting water near the surface, to deep teal toward the bottom, reminiscent of the deep sea. Under the creature is its moniker, “GIANT SQUID,” in a larger font. The weight and the fineness are the inscribed directly below this moniker which reads: “1 OZ. 999 FINE SILVER.” The porthole on this side of the coin is larger than the obverse and encompasses the whole coin.
