Lyndon B. Johnson Coin and Chronicles set in Original Mint Packaging.
If it weren’t enough that Lyndon Johnson took over the presidency on the heels of the assassination of one of the country’s most beloved presidents, John F. Kennedy, he also had a number of political and social issues to deal with that – frankly – were very stressful to the new President.
Johnson inherited a lot of strife over the handling of the Vietnam War – an ongoing battle with no end in sight that had begun for the United States when Johnson was Vice President. His handling of that war caused controversy and dissention of support from the people of the country. His handling of the Civil Rights bills put forth originally by Kennedy caused strife in the political circles in Washington. He was also charged with having very poor foreign policy values, as the cold war – which he also inherited – only became colder during his period in office.
Suffice to say, all the pressure got the better of Johnson. On March 31, 1968, he announced in a national television and radio speech that he would not be seeking – nor accept any nomination to the presidency.
This original set from the United States Mint contains a coin, medal, a postage stamp, and a booklet telling of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the 36th President of the United States.
