2015 Coin and Chronicles set from the US Mint
In 2015 legislation was passed to produce a special run of Presidential dollars in Reverse Proof, issued in a special set with a presidential medal and postage stamp. These special sets are called, "Coin and Chronicle" sets and are very limited in mintage - only 50,000 Kennedy sets were produced.
The John F. Kennedy reverse proof Presidential dollar coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint and bears the 'P' mint mark. It carries the same design and composition as the proof and mint state versions of the issue, but the surface treatment on this coin is in reverse proof, meaning that the fields are frosted and the raised areas of the design are mirror shiny like a proof coin's fields normally are. This is the third such Presidential Dollar coin to be released in 2015.
John F. Kennedy
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, and is arguably the most recognized political figure in the entire world. His recognition comes as much from his strength as a president as it comes from the tragic end of his life in his assassination in Dallas, Texas, on the morning of November 22, 1963.
Kennedy was a Democrat from Massachusetts, and was one of the youngest presidents ever elected to office when he was inaugurated in January of 1961. He faced a number of heavy challenges in his presidency, many of which were related to the cold war with the Soviet Union. He handled the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis as the utmost professional, and likely saved the United States from the brink of nuclear war.
His personal life was the star of the world stage, as he and his beautiful young wife Jackie raised their children in the White House. Because of their youth and connection tot he youth of America, the White House had become the focus of attention for a generation that had barely paid attention to politics before they moved into the country's mansion.
All of these things led to an especially tough adjustment for the country after his assassination, which prompted a number of commemorative firsts to be made in his honor, including the Kennedy half dollar, which was conceived, designed, struck and issued within two months of his assassination.
Coin and Chronicle set popularity
The nature of the Coin and Chronicle sets places them at the forefront of collector attention, with a coin from a popular and common series only being issued in this set as a very limited edition - the reverse proof presidential dollar. Both the Truman and Eisenhower sets were sold out at the mint within 30 minutes of their opening bell, which is a record.
This 2015 John F. Kennedy Coin and Chronicles Set GEM BU OGP is proudly minted by the U.S. Mint. The United States Mint was founded in 1792 and manufactures circulating, collectible, and bullion coinage.
