Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches, which symbolize civilian and military honors, respectively, in the early morning sun. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2015," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman was a sculptor and numismatic artist. Many of his sculptures remain on display in a variety of American cities, while his best known numismatic contributions were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: Based on the Great Seal of the United States, the reverse design was created by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars represent the original states as an eagle protects a union shield below. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim. John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the US Mint. He is the most prolific designer of medals and coins in American history.
