The 2015 American Silver Eagle with MLB Arizona Diamondbacks Label
One great American tradition has joined another in 2015, as the U.S. Mint released its first-ever MLBTM Officially Licensed Archival Holder commemorating the Arizona DiamondbacksTM baseball team. This spectacular offering showcases the perennially popular American Silver Eagle coin in Gem Uncirculated condition, sealed within an archival holder that has been specially licensed by Major League Baseball and bears a Diamondbacks official club logo. This release reflects two firsts: the Gem Uncirculated grade awarded to an American Silver Eagle by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), and a Major League Baseball team showcased on an archival holder.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the Diamondbacks (often shortened as the D-Backs) are a Major League Baseball team and part of the National League. The Diamondbacks have won one World Series championship (in 2001), becoming the fastest expansion team in the Major Leagues to win a championship, which makes them a winner in any book… and now you can enjoy a piece of that history as part of your coin collection. Minted at the West Point Mint (NY), your specially-packaged American Silver Eagle has a weight of 31.013 g, and a diameter is 2.98 mm. It is a reeded coin.
Within the first-ever packaging of the Arizona Diamondbacks archival holder, your 2015 American Silver Eagle showcases the craftsmanship of two iconic designers.
The design of the 2015 Silver Eagle NGC GEM Uncirculated Coin
The obverse of your coin features “Walking Liberty”, an image designed by Adolph A. Weinman. First used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, a coin in circulation from 1916-1947, it depicts a boldly striding Lady Liberty facing a rising sun. Her right arm is outstretched toward the sun, her left holds olive branches. Also on the obverse is engraved “2015,” “LIBERTY,” and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The coin’s reverse is the work of former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. The design features an eagle behind a heraldic shield, clutching in its talons arrows and an olive branch Thirteen stars are engraved above the eagle, and circling the edge of the coin are the phrases “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER—ONE DOLLAR” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Why add the Arizona Diamondbacks 2015 American Silver Eagle to your collection?
The American Silver Eagle has long been a popular choice for silver collectors and stackers, as its silver content of 1 oz. .999 fine silver is backed by the U.S. government and its price is not tied to production numbers, but to the prevailing price of silver. The 2015 Silver Eagle – Diamondbacks-labeled coin, however, is special. With its unique commemorative case, it is the perfect gift for the baseball enthusiast or Diamondbacks fan, or avid collector looking for a new and unusual addition to a complete silver collection. And because the coin has been certified as a Gem Uncirculated Coin by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), you will receive your American Silver Eagle in a highly collectible condition, sealed and preserved in an official Diamondbacks archival holder.
