Why add this 50th Anniversary High Relief 2014-W Silver Reverse Proof Kennedy Half Dollar coin to your collection?
The U.S. Mint's Kennedy Half Dollar series celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2014. The series was launched in 1964, merely months after the tragic assassination of the 35th U.S. President. In tribute to the milestone, the Mint issued a limited mintage set in 2014 comprised of four silver Kennedy Half Dollar coins. The West Point, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver Mints each contributed a uniquely finished coin to the set.
Classic Kennedy Half Dollar Design
Obverse: The obverse rendition of Kennedy was adapted from a Presidential Medal which had been approved by Kennedy himself a short time prior to his assassination. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "2014" and "W." The presidential likeness is credited to sculptor Gilroy Roberts, the ninth U.S. Mint's Chief Engraver, from 1948 until 1964.
Reverse: A meticulously detailed interpretation of the United States Presidential Seal is centered on the reverse. The design is the work of Frank Gasparro, the Mint's tenth Chief Engraver from 1965-1981. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
