2014-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle
The 2014 Proof Silver American Eagle began sales from the U.S. Mint on January 23rd, 2014, 10 days after the bullion coin was released. This particular coin was struck at the West Point Mint, where the majority of Proof Silver Eagles are struck. Because of this fact, the West Point Mint mark of “W” can be found on the reverse of this coin.
As well as the Mint mark, a highly detailed image of a Heraldic Eagle can be seen on the reverse of this coin. This is a design by John Mercanti, the design which made him famous. Around this image are various inscriptions of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR.”
On the obverse of this coin is the beautiful and very well known image of Lady Liberty that has been seen on this coin since 1986. It is directly based on Adolph A. Weinman’s design on the popular Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Around this design are various inscriptions: “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2014.”
Both of these design look even more stunning than normal due to their impressive Proof finish! The result of multiple strikes from a polished die, the contrast of a highly mirrored field and frosted devices is simply breathtaking - especially when the coin itself is nearly perfect!
