Why does this flawless 2014-W American Silver Eagle Proof coin belong in your collection?
The American Silver Eagle series has been annually produced by the U.S. Mint since 1986. The coin is issued exclusively as a 1 oz., one dollar denomination coin, with a variety of finishes that appeal to both collectors and investors.
Timeless Personification of Liberty
Obverse: The obverse imagery is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin, which features Lady Liberty as a young woman wrapped in an American flag, while gracefully walking in the direction of the rising sun. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2014" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The patriotic image was created by Adolph A. Weinman, a highly respected sculptor of the early 1900s.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle is depicted on the reverse, grasping an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars representing the original colonies positioned above. This iconic image by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti is considered the Type-1 Silver Eagle graphic, appearing on all Silver Eagles issued from 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," "W" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
