Why purchase this Enhanced Uncirculated 2014-S Silver High Relief 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half Dollar?
In 2014, the U.S. Mint issued a four-piece coin set to honor the 50th Anniversary of its half dollar series dedicated to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. This half dollar is the San Francisco Mint's contribution to the set, representing the first release in the history of the series to feature a high relief, enhanced uncirculated finish. The remaining three coins of the set were issued by the West Point, Philadelphia and Denver Mints, each showcasing a different, distinctive finish.
Handsome Kennedy Half Dollar Design
Obverse: President Kennedy had approved a design for a Presidential Medal shortly before his assassination. The Mint's Chief Engraver at the time, Gilroy Roberts, used that medal design as a basis for the portrait of Kennedy on the half dollar's obverse. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "2014" and "S."
Reverse: The reverse imagery is inspired by the United States Presidential Seal, depicting a heraldic eagle surrounded by fifty stars. The patriotic graphic was created by Frank Gasparro, the tenth Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR."
