Obverse: An effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wearing a jeweled tiara is centered on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," "1 OZ 999 SILVER," "2014 and "1 DOLLAR." The Queen's likeness was crafted in 1998 by acclaimed British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley.

Reverse: The reverse features a pair of horses in a picturesque landscape at the edge of a meandering stream. The creatures are magnificently colorized with rich shades of brown. The inscription "YEAR OF THE HORSE" curves below the stream where the foreground creature leans forward to take a drink from its bounty. Additional inscriptions include the Chinese character representing horse, and the Perth Mint mark "P."
