Gorgeously Patriotic Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted walking on the obverse, with an American flag elegantly draped around her form. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2013." The powerful image created by acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman originally appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: An eagle is depicted on the reverse, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, beneath thirteen stars. Surrounding inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," the "W" Mint mark and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." This iconic heraldic eagle graphic by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti is the primary identifying element of the Type-1 Silver Eagle, which was issued from the series' introduction in 1986 until mid-2021.
