Why buy this Proof 2013-W American Silver Eagle?

Part of a mintage of 934,818 pieces, this Proof Silver Eagle is part of one of America's finest numismatic traditions. The coin bears the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint, which is situated close to the United States Military Academy, a point of pride for patriotic Americans. It has a stunning proof finish and was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver.

Highly Acclaimed Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman

The obverse features the Walking Liberty design that Adolph Weinman created for the 1916 half dollar. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap as a symbol of her freedom. She is draped in the American flag and carries laurel and oak branches. Laurel branches represent honors bestowed upon civilians, while oak branches represent honors bestowed upon members of the military. Her right hand is extended above the rising sun. "LIBERTY' and the date, "2013," join the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," as inscriptions on this face.

"UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle John Mercanti's reverse design. The design is Mercanti's take on the Great Seal of the United States. A union shield is at the center. It is guarded by an eagle that holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons. It also holds a ribbon in its beak. The ribbon bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). At the top of the design thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular shape. They represent the original thirteen states.

Virtually Flawless PR69 DCAM FS

This coin received Professional Coin Grading Service's (PCGS's) second highest grade, Proof 69. That means that it is perfect as seen by the naked eye. PCGS also certified the coin Deep Cameo, which means that its fields are deeply mirrored, and First Strikes, which indicates that the coin was received for grading no more than 30 days after its initial mint release.
