Why add this Specimen 69 2013-W Enhanced Silver Eagle to your collection?
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) encapsulated this 2013-W Enhanced Silver Eagle with the collectible West Point Gold Star label and graded it Specimen 69. This is the first time the U.S. Mint has ever used their unique enhanced finish - a mix of frosted and mirrored effects applied to artistically enhance the design. This coin was only sold in a set and has a mintage of 281,310.
This special American Silver Eagle was struck at the West Point Branch of the United States Mint and bears the iconic "W" Mint mark. It is composed of .999 fine silver with a weight of 1 Troy oz. The die received the unique finishes before striking the coin, displaying the famous designs of Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti like they have never been seen before!
The obverse design of the coin is the classic Walking Liberty design created by Weinman for the half dollar in 1916. Interestingly, this design was the last to feature Lady Liberty on circulating coinage in the US. Liberty is walking with her arm outstretched, holding laurel and oak branches, wrapped in the Stars and Stripes. The reverse of the coin features an heraldic eagle behind the Union Shield. This is Mercanti's design, and was created just for the American Silver Eagle.
Specimen 69 coins are superior examples of collector coins. Often they have special handling and processes to ensure exemplary quality and appearance. This example lacks any distracting marks or variance in Mint State luster. It has superior eye appeal and magnificent original surfaces.
