Design of the 2013 Canada Silver Pronghorn Antelope
The obverse of this 2013 Canada Silver Pronghorn Antelope features one of Canada's majestic beasts standing in a field. The antelope's body extends from left to right, but its head faces slightly to the right of the person viewing the coin, with both of its eyes visible. Its horns stretch up above the horizon, which is made up of rolling hills. Much of the grass is finely detailed. Just behind the antelope's right front leg are the initials "ED," which represent the designer of the image, Emily Damstra. The coin's country, "CANADA," is inscribed above the image, with the final "A" enclosed by the horns of the animal, which point to it. To the right of the left front leg is the purity of the coin, "9999," the standard used by the Royal Canadian Mint. Below the image along the rim of the coin is information about the metal content in English and French, Canada's two official languages. That inscription reads, "FINE SILVER 1 oz. ARGENT PUR."
Susanna Blunt's rendering of Queen Elizabeth II adorns the reverse of the 2013 Canada Silver Pronghorn Antelope. She is wearing a pearl necklace and pearl earrings, but she is not wearing her crown. Her curly hair runs around her ear and down to the top of her neck. She faces toward the right side of the coin, but her shoulders are open to the viewer. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed around the top rim while the face value and year of mintage, "5 DOLLAR 2013," are inscribed at the bottom. Blunt's initials, "SB," appear on the queen's right shoulder.
Why add this 2013 Canada Silver Pronghorn Antelope to your collection?
This 2013 Canada Silver Pronghorn Antelope is the fifth coin in the Canadian Wildlife Series. The artistry put into the obverse by Emily Damstra is exceptional and makes this a beautiful addition to any collections that focus on coins with animals or scenes from nature more generally. The coin contains 1 Troy oz. of silver with a purity that is higher than that used in most government bullion. At 3.29 mm, the coin has the heft that many collectors fine appealing, while its 38 mm diameter is more than large enough for most people to take in the full image without need for a lens. As with the other coins in this series, the mintage is limited to one million.
