Why purchase this flawless 2012-W Proof Silver Dollar commemorating the United States Army Infantry?

This 2012 release of the U.S. Mint's commemorative coin program is a tribute to the U.S. Army Infantry, the military branch authorized by the Continental Congress in 1775. Struck at the West Point Mint from 0.7736 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver, final mintage of the impressive proof is reported to be 161,151.

Dramatic Commemorative Design

The obverse depicts a modern helmeted soldier standing on a boulder, his right arm reaching out in a gesture symbolizing the "Follow Me" motto of the infantry, designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" "2012" and "W."

The reverse features the artistry of Ronald D. Sanders (designer) and Norman E. Nemeth (sculptor), illustrating a pair of crossed rifles, the infantry emblem. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

Pristine Proof 70 Ultra Cameo

This distinctive 2012-W Infantry Commemorative Silver Dollar Proof coin is graded a flawless Proof 70 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Possessing an exceptional strike featuring sharp contrast between the frosted design elements and the mirrored backgrounds, the proof earned the additional designation of Ultra Cameo (UC). The proof is presented in a protective holder affixed with NGC's Early Releases label, confirmation that the coin was received by the grading service within the first thirty days of release.
