The American Silver Eagle was first issued in the U.S. during 1986. Bullion stackers and numismatic collectors are enthusiastic about the series year after year. Each example is a legal tender silver dollar. The 1 oz. silver weight and .999 silver purity are guaranteed by the U.S. Government. This special collector version was struck at the West Point, New York facility of the U.S. Mint.

Adolph A. Weinman's classic image of the "Walking Liberty" was used for the obverse of the American Silver Eagle series. The image is Lady Liberty, the personification of freedom and prosperity for every American is shown walking in the morning sunlight. John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint was the designer of the classic heraldic eagle reverse. The iconic American Bald Eagle is depicted behind the Union shield and beneath an inverted field of thirteen stars.

This burnished or "uncirculated" collector finish is achieved though a specialized metal on metal process. These coins are highly valued by many collectors, especially considering the bullion and proof versions have significantly higher mintage numbers.
