Why add this $100 1 oz. Platinum Eagle to your collection?

The Platinum Eagle, first issued in 1997, is the only investment grade platinum coin produced by the United States Mint. For the fourth consecutive year, the Platinum Eagle was issued only in Proof format. The 2012 Proof Platinum Eagle is eligible for precious metals IRAs and bears the "W" West Point Mint mark. The coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9995 fine Platinum, with a diameter of 32.7 mm, face value of $100, and a reported mintage of 9,081 coins.

Beautiful, patriotic imagery adorns this Platinum Proof.

The Statue of Liberty is featured on the obverse, designed by John Mercanti, depicted with an expression of peace and grace, along with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2012," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The reverse, by Barbara Fox, illustrates a Revolutionary War era minuteman holding a rifle and book to symbolize the importance of knowledge in protecting the country. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 oz. .9995 PLATINUM," "$100," and a bald eagle privy mark frame the patriotic image.
