Why purchase this specially labeled, San Francisco struck 2012 American Silver Eagle bullion coin?
In 2011, due to increasing public demand for the bullion American Silver Eagle, the U.S. Mint utilized their facilities in West Point and San Francisco for production of the coin. Having no Mint mark, the third party grading services announced that they would designate minting locations of the bullion coins with a (W) or (S) on certification labels when strict submission requirements were met. A total of 33,742,500 Silver Eagle bullion coins were produced in 2012 between the two Mints.
Adolph A. Weinman's 1916 Walking Liberty Design
The obverse features Lady Liberty striding toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag, cradling a gorgeous bouquet of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2012" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
A heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows is depicted on the reverse. The design by John Mercanti includes the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
