Why purchase this exceptionally graded 2012-S American Silver Eagle Proof coin?
In 2012, the San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint celebrated its 75th Anniversary. In honor of the milestone, the Mint released a stunning 2-piece set of American Silver Eagle coins. The set included two coins with the "S" Mint mark, one of which was this exquisite proof variety coin.
Elegant Beauty of the Silver Eagle
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse as a young woman draped in the flag of the U.S., casually walking at daybreak while carrying a bundle of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2012" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman created this patriotic image, which first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: The reverse features an eagle with a cluster of arrows and an olive branch in its grip. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," the Mint mark "S" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." This heraldic eagle rendition by 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti is known as the Type-1 style, which was struck upon all Silver Eagle coins issued from 1986 until mid-2021.
