Why purchase this flawless 2012-S San Francisco American Silver Eagle 2-coin set?
In 2012, in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the San Francisco Mint, the U.S. Mint issued an American Silver Eagle set dedicated to the milestone. The set included a traditional proof and a reverse proof coin, each dated 2012 and struck with the "S" Mint mark. The reverse proof was notably the first in the history of the series to be issued with the San Francisco Mint mark.
Spectacular Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted walking while draped in an American flag on the obverse, an image which first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2012" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," the "S" Mint mark and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." This patriotic image is the identifying element of the Type-1 Silver Eagle issued from 1986 until mid-2021, the design of which is credited to 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
