Why buy this San Francisco 2012-S Silver Eagle 2-Coin Set?
The San Francisco Mint celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012 with this Silver Eagle Proof and Reverse Proof Set. Both coins were available exclusively in the sets, of which 224,935 were struck. Each coin bears the San Francisco Mint's "S" mint mark. The coins were each struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Iconic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The two coins in the set both bear the same designs. On the obverse is Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design, which featured on the half dollar from 1916-1947. Liberty carries laurel branches, which represent civilian honors, and oak branches, which represent military ones, as she strides confidently toward the left side of the coin. In front of her, she extends her right hand, as though presenting the rising sun to the holder.
John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States features on the reverses. Thirteen stars represent the original states in a triangular formation at the top. Below, an eagle clutches arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, which indicates a preference for peace, as it guards a union shield. Rim inscriptions offer each coin's country, weight, and face value.
Perfect PF70 & SP70 UC ER with San Francisco Mint Labels
Both of these coins earned Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) highest grade, Proof 70 and SP70 respectively, which indicates that they are in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. They were also certified Ultra Cameo due to the sharp contrasts between mirrored and frosted areas and Early Releases, which indicates that they were submitted for grading within the first 30 days after their initial release.
