Classic Great Seal of the United States Design by John Mercanti
Obverse: On the obverse is one of the most beloved designs in American numismatic history, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries branches as the morning sun begins to rise. Obverse inscriptions note the central figure's name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2012." Adolph Weinman played an important role in the early 20th century American numismatic renaissance. His best known contributions to the effort were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: The reverse features an adapted version of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercani. It consists of an eagle protecting a union shield and thirteen stars, which represent the original states. Inscriptions along the rim read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti has designed more medals and coins that anyone else in American history. He worked with the US Mint for nearly 40 years, including time as its Chief Engraver.
Nearly Perfect PF69 UC ER with San Francisco Mint Labels
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded both of the coins in this set their second highest grade, Proof 69. That grade is given to coins that appear perfect to the unaided eye. NGC also certified both pieces Ultra Cameo (UC) and Early Releases (ER). UC indicates that a piece exhibits particularly sharp contrasts heavily frosted and deeply mirrored areas, while ER means that the coin was submitted for grading no more than 30 days after its initial release from the mint. The labels on which this information is provided pay homage to the San Francisco Mint.
