From College Backup to Pro StarterRyan Tannehill was a backup quarterback in his first two seasons with Texas A&M. Though not seeing much action behind center, Tannehill did play wide receiver in both of those seasons, catching 101 passes for 1,453 yard and 9 touchdowns between the two seasons. He started his junior year in the same position but took over as the starting quarterback mid-season. He retained the job in his senior season, when he started thirteen games. That year, Tannehill completed 327/531 passes for 3,744 yards and 29 touchdowns. The Miami Dolphins selected Tannehill with the eighth pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. He started every game for the Dolphins from 2012-2015 and started 13 of their games the following year before suffering a season ending injury. He missed the entire 2017 season due to a different injury but returned to start 11 games for the Dolphins in 2018. He was traded to the Tennessee Titans in the off-season and started the year as the backup. He took over the starting job mid-season and retained it for the following two years. In 2019, he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and played in his first Pro Bowl. He has retained the starting job for Tennessee and gone 3-3 as a starter in the playoffs with the Titans after never playing in a playoff game for the Dolphins.
