Classic Designed by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman

Obverse: The obverse design, which first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, was created by Adolph Weinman. Against a backdrop of the rising sun, Liberty carries branches that represent civilian and military honors. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2011" among the inscriptions on this face. Adolph Weinman contributed two of the best known pieces of America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. He also designed many sculptures, some of which are still displayed in various American cities to this day.

Reverse: Modeled after the Great Seal of the United States, John Mercanti's reverse design consists of an eagle protecting a union shield under thirteen stars. The stars represent the original thirteen states. Encircling the design are three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the US Mint's twelfth Chief Engraver. During his time with the institution, which lasted nearly four decades, he designed more coins and medals than anyone else in the institution's history.
