Powerful Domestic Tranquility Design by Joel Iskowitz
John Mercanti's obverse design features a closeup look at the face of the Statue of Liberty. She looks directly into the holder's eyes. The seven rays of her crown represent the seven seas and seven continents through which liberty is meant to spread. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2011," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
Joel Iskowitz designed and Phebe Hemphill sculpted the reverse, which harks back to the phrase "to ensure domestic tranquility." A wheat field represents the nation's size and diversity of views. An eagle privy mark is included on the rim along with inscriptions that offer the coin's country, weight, purity, and face value.
