Striking Walking Liberty and Heraldic Eagle Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: Adolph Weinman's historic Walking Liberty design graces the obverse. Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag as the morning sun begins to rise. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2011." Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor and numismatic designer. He is best known for designing two of the most collected coins of the 20th century, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle design that John Mercanti created specifically for this series. Based on the Great Seal of the United States, it consists of an eagle that protects a union shield and thirteen stars, which represent the country's first states. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," is inscribed on the rim, as are the coin's metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti held the post of US Mint Chief Engraver for part of his over three and a half decades with the US Mint. His career led him to becoming the most prolific designer of medals and coins in American history.
