Why Order This MS70 2009-W Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin with a Brown Label?
It wasn't all that long ago that the U.S. Mint was without .9999 fine gold coins in its lineup. This changed in 2006 with the introduction of the Gold Buffalo, then in 2007 the First Spouse series of gold coins made its debut. The Letitia Tyler coin offered here was struck at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint in 2009. Like other First Spouse gold coins, it weighs 1/2 Troy oz. Mintage of the first few designs of the series tends to be higher than most of the later designs.
Letitia Tyler and Cedar Grove
Obverse: This side of the coin features a detailed portrait of Letitia Tyler. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly after becoming First Lady. Her name is inscribed at the top of the design. If you look below her portrait, you'll see the years that she was First Lady. The date and "W" mint mark are to the right.
Reverse: The design on the reverse is based on what First Lady Letitia Tyler was known for. While John Tyler worked on his political career, Letitia raised the children and ran the Cedar Grove Plantation. This design shows her with two of the children and some of the plantation buildings in the background. The gold weight and purity inscriptions are located on this side of the coin.
NGC MS70 Brown Label
This coin has a brown label to display its grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Since it's free of imperfections it received the grade of Mint State 70.
