Powerful To Form a More Perfect Union Design by Susan Gamble
John Mercanti's obverse, which is common to the Platinum Eagle series, depicts Liberty looking toward the future. The design is a close-up of the Statue of Liberty that stands in New York Harbor. The figure wears a crown with seven rays, which represent the spread of freedom through the seven seas and the seven continents. "LIBERTY" is inscribed along the rim at the top, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2009," are provided on the right.
Susan Gamble Designed and Phebe Hemphill sculpted the design that appears on the reverse. It features an image of four Americans of different ethnic backgrounds next to the inscription "A MORE PERFECT UNION." Rim inscriptions offer the coin's country, weight, purity, and face value.
