This 2009 proof platinum coin was the first $100 Platinum Eagle issued in a new 6 year program. The aim of the Mint’s new program was to explore the concepts of American democracy as embedded in the preamble to the Constitution.
As part of this 6 year program, each year saw the introduction of a new reverse design: To Form a More Perfect Union (2009), To Establish Justice (2010), To Insure Domestic Tranquility (2011), To Provide for the Common Defense (2012), To Promote the General Welfare (2013), and To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity (2014).

On the reverse are four faces representing diversity as designed by Susan Gamble (“SG”) and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill (“PH”). Their initials can be seen on this side of the coin.
